The Difference Between a Scooter and A Moped
If you ride a scooter, but people call it a moped or if you do not know what a moped is, then after reading this you will be able to know the difference. Do you want people to call your scooter a moped? If someone calls it a motorcycle you might be ok with that, but a moped?
The true defininiton of a moped is any two or three wheeled vehicle with an engine displacement of less than 50cc. A moped is more like a motorized bicycle. They are also commonly know as pocket bikes. They usually can not accelerate as fast or go fast at all and are also known as street legal bikes.
This topic can actually be more important than having a friend call it the wrong name. In many states there are vehicle laws you must meet so it would be good to know what those laws are and make sure you do not get more of a scooter, bike, or moped that is allowed. Remember, they are also different when it comes to speed as well so know what you want that will meet your needs as well as the local laws before you buy.
Here’s an example of a street legal scooter below. It is made by Vespa.
