Remember September 11th

We thought we would take the time and the day to remember September 11th, 2001 and to remind everyone including ourselves what a great nation we live in. Yes America has its issues with gas prices high and things a little slower all over, we can tend to take life in America for granted and complain about more than we should. America is the best country in the world bar none and the freedoms that exist allow you to do many things that others can not do including scoot around town freely.

Take today to remember, and once you do do not forget it tomorrow.

The Difference Between a Scooter and A Moped

If you ride a scooter, but people call it a moped or if you do not know what a moped is, then after reading this you will be able to know the difference. Do you want people to call your scooter a moped? If someone calls it a motorcycle you might be ok with that, but a moped?

The true defininiton of a moped is any two or three wheeled vehicle with an engine displacement of less than 50cc. A moped is more like a motorized bicycle. They are also commonly know as pocket bikes. They usually can not accelerate as fast or go fast at all and are also known as street legal bikes.

This topic can actually be more important than having a friend call it the wrong name. In many states there are vehicle laws you must meet so it would be good to know what those laws are and make sure you do not get more of a scooter, bike, or moped that is allowed. Remember, they are also different when it comes to speed as well so know what you want that will meet your needs as well as the local laws before you buy.

Here’s an example of a street legal scooter below. It is made by Vespa.

Kick Scooters- An Extreme Sport?

Extreme sports have changed the definition of sports in the last 10 years worldwide. Now there is a new idea that has surfaced for a new competition within the Extreme event and it is because of a uniquely talented kid in Murrieta,  California. You probably have heard of skateboards and bikes being used to do all sorts of tricks and competitions, but have you heard of tricks being done on kick scooters, also known as Razor scooters?

Sixteen year old Raymond Warner started out using his Razor scooter for tricks for the extreme sport concept back in 2000 when these type of scooters became the craze. He had been at the rink using bikes and regular skateboards since he was 5 years old and when he tried the new type of scooter, he decided he would integrate that into his routines and now such tricks have become popular across the nation. The tricks are a combination of BMX and skateboarding and include Superman Backflip Grab and the Tailwhip.

There is currrently one competition that takes place on the west coast for these type of riders and Raymond places well in it yearly. He is also hoping that this competition will pick up more publicity and be added to the world of Extreme sports as doing these type of tricks on a kick scooter is extremely (pun intended) different than riding a skateboard. It takes a different balance skill and is more challenging.  Raymond is currently receiving offers for sponsorship and if he has his way you will be seeing him in the next large Extreme sports competition as they add Razor Kick scooters as a new kind of Extreme competition.

Scooter Shows - Do they Exist and Where Can I Find One

You hear a lot about auto shows and even motorcycle shows but what about a scooter show? Is there such an event? Although less frequent they do exist and there was one that was held in March 2008 in Germany and there is one also coming up in April, 2009 in Ireland. There is also one held in the UK every year usually in the late fall. So although not often there are actual scooter shows like auto shows and you just have to keep your eye out for them. Maybe there will be one in the US soon, as gas prices soar so will the need for scooters and the manufacturers will want to show off their newest models and what better place than a scooter show to do that? In the meantime you have to see the scooters at a dealer near you or online.

Save Gas: Drive a Scooter Around Town

Have you ever thought of riding a scooter around your area to get to work or to play? With the cost of gas these days, you should. Two wheeled scooters are extremely popular now and with gas on the rise their popularity should rise with it. Think about going to the local market these days, going to have a BBQ with friends or practically any travel within your local area. If you hop in your car it will probably cost you between $1.00 -$2.00 each trip. However with a scooter it will be at least 10 times cheaper and you will have fun too.

Scooters have been very popular in the many Asian countries for years now, such as India, where a scooter is the primarily form of transportation. The cost of maintaining a scooter is again at least 10 times less than a car so maybe those that use them have been a head of the game for a long time.

Of, course you must keep safety in mind so taking a scooter on a highway or freeway is not a good idea. Also any major roads you need to be careful as well. Each city has their own scooter regulations, so check into them before you start to scoot around.

You might think they are expensive without looking into the cost, but you can find many good deals online. Vespa, Honda, and Yamaha are some of the the most popular brands and you can find motorizedelectric, or gas scooters.  We have seen more than normal in our neighborhood lately and if you stop to think about you, you probably are too.You will also find as the gas rises, your initial investment will pay for itself in no time. Check it out and save yourself the hassle at the pump.
